Southwest airlines pilot flag tie12/2/2023 ![]() We obviously don’t need that second leg of the flight anymore, and I want credit for at least that portion of our flight, especially if they aren’t going to provide reimbursement for rentals. She even tried to call for us and the line disconnected on her. ![]() We asked to cancel the second leg that is still booked for us DEN>ELP and she said bc we already flew the first leg, if she cancelled it on her end, we would receive no credit, and we should try to call when things settle down. We drove into ELP and went to the airport to talk to someone there, and she said that it’s all a domino effect from the weather, so no reimbursements. National made an exception for us even though they didn’t have any one-way cars left, and we headed out with a $300 rental bill, prepared to ask for reimbursement when we arrived in ELP. Ran as fast as we could to a rental shuttle after seeing the crowds and lines to talk to a gate agent, and begged for a one-way car. Our original flight was supposed to leave 12/21 and had already been cancelled and rescheduled twice, cutting our original 6-day visit to family in half already, so there would be no point to see them for 14 hours from across the country. We landed in DEN from MKE around 11pm 12/23 to find out our second leg to ELP was cancelled, and the app had auto-booked us for a flight from DEN>ELP to arrive at 12:40am 12/27 this wouldn’t work for us bc we have a flight ELP>DEN>MKE the evening of 12/27. I really hope those other carriers can start eating into Southwest's routes. This in turn will mean less money for southwest to hire more employees and improve the mistakes that were made this holiday. This could easily spiral into a worse situation as loyal customers leave the brand and other carriers open up routes to compete with Southwest. Southwest really needs to get their act together. In fact it'll be pretty easy to forget Southwest even exists as they don't post their flights on most flight booking aggregation sites. I'll probably fly Southwest again on occasion, but that will only be when all other options are exhausted. At this point I'm going to liquidate all those points and move on to other airline loyalty programs. I've probably gone thru a million southwest rapid rewards points over the past few decades. I used to chase Southwest credit offers and collect points. ![]() Thank you Southwest for ruining Christmas 2022. It's all for nothing, now I'm stuck at my home alone while the rest of my family is opening presents. This is Frontier or Spirit level style business. Southwest operations collapsed like a house of cards. This is fine when the weather is perfect across the country, but it is not robust and Southwest should have been better prepared. Southwest has been trying to cut corners by hiring fewer employees and pushing the limits of the system. ![]() Sure weather was a factor in this, but more importantly this was operational incompetence by Southwest corporate. Before I could get to the terminal Southwest cancelled the flight. However My flight kept getting pushed back again and again. The weather was perfectly fine, it had been fine for days. For as far as I could see there were planes after planes lining up to land. There were planes taking off left and right. Whilst parking my car Friday night and waiting for the shuttle bus the skies were clear at my airport. ![]() Out of all the major airlines Southwest handled this the worst. ![]()
